Indie books — stacked for discovery
Thousands of incredible books never get the attention they deserve. We’re here to change that.
Discover independent books without getting lost in an endless marketplace. Search by genre, tropes, vibes, settings and more—then go directly to the author’s retailer to buy.
✓ No account to search✓ Indie & small press only✓ Free for readers and authors
The problem
The algorithm has a type. It isn’t indie.
Bestseller lists skip them
Charts reward marketing budgets. A brilliant debut with 40 reviews never makes the front table.
Store search needs a title
Great when you know what you want. Useless when all you know is “cozy, small town, one bed”.
Recs vanish in the scroll
You saw the perfect book in a video last Tuesday. Good luck finding that video again.
How it works
How the shelf works
IndieShelf is a discovery platform built exclusively for independent books. Authors create their listings. Readers discover books by the things they actually care about—genre, tropes, vibes, settings, formats and more.
Stack what you want to read
Start with a genre, then add tropes, vibes, settings and more. Each choice narrows the shelf around exactly what you’re looking for.
Get a shelf, not a feed
Every book on your shelf matches what you selected. No endless scrolling through books that have nothing to do with what you’re looking for.
Save it, share it
Heart your favorites. Save three books to create a shareable IndieShelf graphic.
10 tag groups
Say exactly what you’re in the mood for.
Over 300 tags, curated by hand, written the way readers actually talk. Tap any chip to start a search with it.

Every click goes to the book
We’re the shelf, not the shop.
There’s no checkout here. Every book links straight to the stores its author chose — Amazon, Kobo, Bookshop.org and more — so you buy the way you already read. Listing is free for authors, with no exclusivity.
Post your shelf
Three saves. One graphic. Your whole feed asking “where’d you find these?”
Heart three books and IndieShelf fans the covers into a TikTok- or Instagram-sized image with your stack on it. Download, post, done.
Questions
The honest answers
What counts as indie?
Self-published and small-press books. If the author owns their rights and their store link, it counts.
Does IndieShelf sell books?
No. There’s no checkout here — every book links out to the stores its author chose, and you buy there at that store’s price.
Is it free for readers?
Yes. You don’t need an account to search; an email lets you save books to your shelf and keep them across devices.
How do books get tagged?
Authors pick tags from one shared vocabulary when they list, and we sweep the catalog every day — anything mis-tagged or not indie comes down.
Why not just search a big store?
Store search works when you know the title. IndieShelf is for when you only know the feeling.
